Rejection Elections: a history (and hope for 2006 and beyond)

If history is any guide, the 2006 congressional elections should constitute a "Rejection Election" cycle.

While many pundits and prognosticators are projecting moderate Republican losses in the House (generally in the 15 to 25 seat range) and proportionally analogous losses in the Senate (3 to 5 seats), my analysis of 33 seemingly similar congressional elections lends credibility to the thesis that the Democratic party will pick up at least 35 seats in the House and at least 5 Senate seats.
