If the last several years have taught us anything...it is this:
You can't suspend democracy, especially during times of crisis.
Neither Nixon nor Kennedy "suspended" their campaigns during the height of the Cold War. Neither Ford nor Carter "suspended" their campaigns during the economic crises of the mid-70s. Neither Reagan nor Carter "suspended" their campaigns at a time when the Soviets were in Afghanistan, Americans were being held hostage in Iran and Chrysler (a major employer) needed hundreds of millions of dollars in loan guarantees to avoid filing for bankruptcy.
Message to Senator McCain: If you can't be bothered to go out and speak directly with the American people in an effort to earn their trust, support for your ideas, and vote - perhaps you should stay in the Senate.
